We offer specialist outpatient clinics to assess children with complex communication, voice, feeding and swallowing needs.
- This clinic is for children who have been in hospital for their cardiac condition and need follow-up when they are discharged due to concerns about their swallowing and feeding. The speech and language therapy team works closely with the cardiology team, the local speech and language therapist and other health professionals to help each child.
- This clinic is for children who have a confirmed or suspected airway diagnosis and there are concerns about their swallowing. The speech and language therapy team works closely with the ear, nose and throat team, the local speech and language therapist and other health professionals to help each child.
- This clinic provides assessment, support and advice for medically complex children with eating and drinking difficulties and dysphagia. Your child will be seen by a speech and language therapist, a dietitian and a consultant in paediatric neurodisability. Learn more about our feeding clinic.
- This is an advisory clinic for families and local services across the UK. The clinic can support confirming a diagnosis and can support management of areas of concern. Your child will be seen by a speech and language therapist, a physiotherapist, a consultant and a family liaison officer from Rett UK if parents or carers are in agreement. - This clinic supports children with saliva control difficulties which can have a marked effect on the quality of life. We look at causes and what we can do to help. Your child will be seen by a consultant paediatric neurologist and some clinics are also attended by a speech and language therapist. - This clinic is for children to receive time limited therapy for drooling after they have attended the saliva control clinic. The speech and language therapy team works closely with the saliva control clinic and other professionals to provide a treatment plan.
- This clinic provides assessment and implementation of one-way valves to support communication in relation to tracheostomy. Alongside the speech and language therapist, an ear, nose and throat clinical nurse specialist also attends the clinic and can address tracheostomy related concerns. - This clinic is for children to have a videofluoroscopic swallow study, an x-ray of swallowing. It is used to diagnose a swallowing disorder and trial therapeutic approaches to optimise the child’s swallowing. The speech and language therapy team works with professionals in the X-ray department, the local speech and language therapist and other health professionals to help each child.
- This clinic is for children who require videolaryngostroboscopy to investigate voice or breathing difficulties, to support a diagnosis and plan.

This clinic is for children who have difficulty with their voice to determine if they need endoscopic evaluation of their voice. Some children continue to be seen in this clinic if they have a voice disorder associated with an airway history or if they require surgery. The speech and language therapy team works closely with our ear, nose and throat team, the local speech and language therapist and other health professionals to help each child.
