Who can refer
We accept referrals from:
- GPs
- hospital consultants
- hand therapists
Emergency trauma patients will come to the service through the emergency department (A&E).
How to refer
Routine referrals
GP referrals
All GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral Service using these details:
- Specialty: Children's and adolescent services
- Clinic type: Plastic surgery
- Service name: Children's general plastics surgery, Evelina Children's Hospital, St Thomas' site, RJ1*
GP referrals sent by email or post will not be processed.
Tertiary referrals
Tertiary referrals should be sent by post or email using the information in the referrals contacts box on this page.

Urgent and 2-week referrals
Please send referrals by email and mark as 'URGENT PAEDIATRIC PLASTIC REFERRAL' in the subject heading.
Please call one of the plastic surgery secretaries to let us know that you have sent the referral and to check that they have received it.
Referrals can also be sent by post to the address in the referral contacts box on this page.
For referrals from other hospitals, we recommend that the patient is sent back to their GP for referral, unless the referral is for a second opinion or for the same condition.
Emergency referrals
Patients who need emergency care and require immediate attention should come to the emergency department (A&E) in St Thomas’ Hospital, where they will be assessed and referred for surgery if necessary.
For emergency referrals by GPs and other providers, please telephone the main hospital switchboard on 020 7188 7188 and ask for one of the following:
- plastics senior house officer on call, bleep 0155
- trauma coordinator, bleep 2613
- children's bed manager, bleep 0821
