The South Thames Retrieval Service is an integral part of our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Our retrieval teams stabilise and transfer around 1,000 children per year (by air and road), from the south Thames region and beyond, to the different London intensive care units.
Retrieval teams consist of a retrieval nurse (a very experienced PICU nurse with an extended role), a retrieval lead and either a medical lead, or more likely, one of our advanced nurse practitioners. The advanced nurse practitioner course is run in-house here at Evelina London and is one of the key career pathways our nurses can access.
