Baby Harrison returns to the Neonatal Unit with his mum Nina, who was interviewed for ITV This Morning.
Baby Harrison starred in an episode of ITV show, This Morning, as they captured his mum’s return to Evelina London Children’s Hospital to thank the team who saved his life.
Born four months early and weighing less than a bag of sugar, baby Harrison needed immediate care from the Neonatal Unit at Evelina London Children's Hospital.
The touching moment when Nina Gilbert and the now 21 month old, Harrison, came back to thank the team and met Dr Hammad Khan was captured for ITV’s This Morning as part of a look at the work of the Neonatal Unit.
This Morning's Dr Ranj, who used to work as a doctor at Evelina London, was on hand to hear their remarkable story.
Now happy and healthy, Harrison was born at 23 weeks and weighed less than 1lb. During nearly six months on the Neonatal Unit he had to undergo five operations as he battled to survive.
Mum Nina Gilbert said:
“All the staff went above and beyond what was expected of them. They became like our extended family.
“Harrison wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for them. We’ll never be able to repay that gratitude so thank you so much.”
Broadcast as part of a special feature about the maternity unit at St Thomas’ Hospital, including live filming, you can watch the footage again at the ITV website until 15 December 2016:
