Senior radiographers Lucy Sayer and Jo Roberto, who work across the Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals and Evelina London imaging departments, marked World Radiography Day on Sunday 8 November with an award-winning poster.
World Radiography Day is an annual event to raise the profile of radiographers on the date when Wilhelm Roentgen discovered X-radiation in 1895.
This year the Society of Radiographers held a competition to design a poster to mark the day. Winners, including Lucy and Jo, saw their posters displayed in hospitals across the UK to explain what radiographers do.
Lucy and Jo's poster is based on the theme 'With you every step of the way'. It demonstrates how radiographers are part of multiple care pathways within a hospital which means that patients might see a radiographer at many different stages of their care.
Lucy Sayer says: “As a team we ensure patients receive high quality imaging and care while they are in hospital. This poster shows the variety of imaging available to help make people aware of the different kinds of medical imaging.”
The radiology team at Evelina London provide imaging services such as X-ray and ultrasound to help diagnose and treat children and young people.
Staff use state-of-the-art equipment, including a dedicated children’s MRI scanner which is located in a special room so that some surgical operations can take place there too. This reduces disruption for our young patients and potentially means one less visit to hospital.
