Inside Out London
Staff and patients starred in BBC London’s Inside Out programme in a special feature to celebrate Evelina London’s 10th anniversary.
Evelina London’s Specialist Registrar Dr Ranj Singh, known to many children as Dr Ranj from CBeebies, hosted the show providing a look behind the scenes of a typical day at our children’s hospital.
Following the stories of real patients, the programme gave a snapshot of the life-changing and ground-breaking work carried out at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
The feature marks 10 years since Evelina London moved into the state-of-the-art building on the St Thomas’ site and reflected on the advances in treatment in that time.
It opened with the story of Ronnie, a baby admitted to Evelina London as one of the only hospitals in South East England equipped to deal with his severe breathing difficulties. Staff from the paediatric intensive care unit acted quickly to get Ronnie out of danger.
A range of staff explained the specialist services offered at Evelina London including scientific screening to help diagnose children with rare inherited disorders, involvement in research trials to enable children to access cutting-edge treatment and pioneering heart surgery performed by leading surgeons.
Marian Ridley, Director of Evelina London said:
“This programme was a great opportunity to show people the wide range of children and young people we care for at Evelina London. We’re grateful that Ronnie, Levi, Brooke and Albie with their parents and all our patients that feature were happy to share their story to help us to show what we do with pride.”
The Inside Out episode featuring Evelina London which first aired on Monday 28 September will be available to watch on iPlayer until 28 October 2015.
