Things to do

Things to do

Coming to hospital doesn’t need to be boring - at Evelina London there is always something going on! There are loads of fun things to see and do and sometimes special visitors and famous faces pop in to say hello.

Listen to some of our patients talking about things to do at Evelina London:

Play areas

On Level 0 – Ocean, there is a fun area with a games console and a TV. You can hang out here if you are waiting to see a doctor or nurse for an outpatient appointment.

If you are staying in hospital, there are areas on the wards with books, games and computers to play on. A nurse can show you where the nearest one is to your bed.

Bedside TV and radio

Television

At your bed, you will have your own TV and radio.

On the TV, there are loads of channels to watch, all for free.

On the radio, there are plenty of stations to choose from, including our own hospital radio, Radio Lollipop. It’s free to listen to the radio too.

You will be given headphones to use so that it doesn’t get too noisy on the ward or you can bring your own from home.

Phones

You will also have a phone at your bedside. You need to pay to use the phone by buying a phonecard. It costs:

  • 10p per minute for you to call someone from your bedside
  • 39p per minute off-peak and 49p per minute at all other times for friends and family to call you on your bedside phone.

These phones are provided by a company called Hospedia. You can buy the card from a Hospedia rep who will visit your ward regularly.

If you have a mobile phone, please ask a nurse if it is ok to use it. Keep your mobile phone safe by having it with you or locking it in the cupboard next to your bed.

Radio Lollipop

Radio Lollipop is our own hospital radio station, just for you. Radio Lollipop plays lots of great music.

The DJs chat to staff and patients to find out what is going on at Evelina London.

You can listen to Radio Lollipop on your bedside radio (radio button number five). Listen on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6.15pm-8pm.

Radio Lollipop’s studio is on Level 3 – Beach, next to the juice bar.

Look out for Radio Lollipop volunteers on your ward – you can ask them to request a song.

WiFi

If you want to go online on your phone or tablet, there’s free WiFi at Evelina London. You can ask a member of staff to help you get online.

Hospital dogs

You may get a visit from our friendly therapy dogs.  They come to Evelina London to be stroked and cuddled.
