How do I get an appointment?
Your child’s GP or specialist doctor will refer them to the radiology service for a test or scan. All tests, except x-rays, are only carried out with an appointment.
Cancelling or changing your appointment
If you need to change or cancel your child’s appointment for any reason, please contact the imaging reception on 020 7188 9218.
Please tell us as soon as possible so we can offer the appointment to another patient.
Before your appointment
Your child’s appointment letter will contain details of anything you may need to do in advance. For example, for some tests such as ultrasounds, your child may need to have a full bladder.
Please bring your child's red book (personal child health record) to your appointment.
During your appointment
Tests such as x-rays, fluoroscopy, CT scans and MRI scans are usually carried out by a radiographer. Ultrasound examinations can be performed by an ultrasonographer or a doctor called a radiologist. Other doctors, nurses and assistants form part of the team.
As we are a teaching hospital, students and visitors may be observing the team. We will always ask your permission for them to observe your appointment.
After your appointment
After your child’s appointment, we will send a test report to the doctor who requested it (your child’s GP or specialist doctor). The doctor will contact you to discuss the results.
