Your child's neurology appointment

How to get an appointment

You and your child will be referred to our service by a hospital doctor or specialist.

Changing or cancelling your appointment

If you need to change or cancel your child’s appointment for any reason, please contact the children’s appointment office:

Please tell us as soon as possible so we can offer the appointment to another patient.

Before your appointment

It is always helpful to bring:

  • any previous medical letters
  • a list of medicines your child is taking
  • your child's red book (personal child health record)

We'll send you specific instructions for some clinics.

If your child is being assessed for any unusual physical symptoms, it may be helpful to bring along a home video recording.

During your appointment

Depending on which clinic you and your child attend, you may see one of the medical team or a specialist therapist.

Your first clinic appointment usually lasts about 1 hour.

As we're a teaching hospital, students and visitors may be observing the team. We'll always ask your permission for them to observe your appointment.

After your appointment

After the appointment, we'll write to the doctor who referred you to explain what happened at the appointment and what will happen next. We'll send a copy of this letter to you, your GP and any other clinicians or healthcare professionals involved in your child's care.

The letter will have a contact number you can phone if you have any questions.
