MRI scans under general anaesthetic
Children who require an MRI under general anaesthetic need to be under a named consultant in Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Please refer your patient to the appropriate clinical team and the team will then request the MRI scan.
Cardiac MRI scans
We do not accept outside referrals specifically for a cardiac MRI scan. All patients need to be seen by a paediatric cardiologist beforehand.
Awake MRI scans
Who can refer
We accept referrals for awake MRI scans from consultants at Evelina London Children's Hospital and other hospitals.
We do not accept GP referrals for awake MRI scans.
How to refer
We accept written referrals addressed to the imaging reception. Please send by email or post using the details in the contacts box on this page.
To avoid unnecessary delays, please make sure that the following patient information is written clearly on the referral letter:
- full name
- address
- contact number
- date of birth
It is also important to write or type the clinical details and type of test required legibly, as this information is scanned by computer.
Urgent referrals
Please mark any urgent referrals as urgent and include all the relevant clinical information.
All requests will be screened by a consultant radiologist.
Emergency referrals may be made following assessment by the accident and emergency team.
