How do I get an appointment?
Children are normally referred to the our infectious diseases and immunology service by their GP.
Some children are referred to us from other hospitals or from other services at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
How can I cancel / change an appointment?
If you need to change or cancel your child’s appointment for any reason, please contact the appointment centre on 020 7188 4000 or email paediatricappointment@gstt.nhs.uk.
Please tell us as soon as possible so we can offer the appointment to another patient.
Before your appointment
Please bring along your child’s red book (personal child health record) to your appointment and any hospital letters or previous reports about your child’s growth.
It is also helpful to bring with you a list of any medicines your child is using.
At your appointment
At your first clinic appointment clinic, you and your child will normally see a consultant. If you are seen by a junior doctor first, a consultant will always review and discuss your child’s condition and care. Find out more about our infectious diseases and immunology staff.
First appointments usually last 20 minutes.
We may need to take blood and urine samples or take x-rays. These tests are usually carried out on the same day as your clinic appointment. If we take a blood sample, we will offer your child a ‘numbing’ cream or spray to help with any pain.
As we are a teaching hospital, students and visitors may be observing the team. We will always ask your permission for them to observe your appointment
After your appointment
After your child’s appointment, we will send a letter to your GP or the doctor who referred you to us. We will also send a copy of this letter to you and any other doctors and health professionals involved in your child’s care.
The letter will contain contact details in case you have any questions.
If your child needs a follow-up appointment, we will arrange this before you leave the clinic.
