The referral has to come from a health professional involved in the child’s care.
All referrals have to be discussed with the Compass Consultant or Compass clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and followed up by completion of an electronic form (electronic patient records-> enter orders->cross speciality). Referrals are made via an electronic form and reviewed by the general paediatrics consultants and clinical nurse specialists weekly on a Wednesday. We do not take on the overall day-to-day care of all children referred to us. Instead we may offer a one-off compass team review, so that we can support your child’s lead medical team to provide the holistic care that they need while they are in hospital.
When the referrals are reviewed, it maybe decided that the child and families’ needs can be met in other ways; whether that be the teams working differently or accessing the input from other Evelina London resources such as psychology support, mediation teams or safeguarding. This will be fed back to the referrer.
