Roll over BAFTAs, it's all about the PAFTAs! Last updated: Thursday, 14 March 2024 Dr Hammad Khan holding his PAFTA certificate Dr Hammad Khan, a consultant neonatologist at Evelina London, has been named educational supervisor of the year in the 2023 London School of Paediatrics Awards for Training Achievements (PAFTA). The PAFTAs are awarded each year across a range of categories to celebrate excellence among doctors in training and supervisors across London. Junior doctors are vital to the delivery of our children's services at Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital and in our community services in Lambeth and Southwark. Hammad received a heartfelt nomination from a junior doctor who has benefitted from his supervision and support. The nomination said: I would like to nominate him [Hammad Khan] for being a wonderful and exceptional educational supervisor for a series of my training placements. He has provided a strong, ongoing supportive, filled with advice approach through it all. "He is a great clinician, has excellent communication skills, is an IT whiz, wonderful teacher (very interactive ward rounds and formal teaching sessions), displays high ethical standards, supplies guidance and opportunities for career development, recognises and appreciates the contributions and efforts of the team members and takes a proactive approach to address problems and find solutions. Overall, a positive example for me and my co-workers and an MVP for exemplary support in my training. Thank you." Dr Hammad Khan said: I'm extremely grateful for the nomination that led to this award and I'm extremely proud to work in an organisation that supports its consultants to create a positive training environment. We're also really lucky to have incredible junior colleagues who inspire us to be innovative and engaged in their development and wellbeing. Dr Ajanta Kamal, Evelina London's lead for medical education said: "Hammad's award is really well deserved and reflects his thoughtfulness and dedication when considering the lives and experiences of the trainees in the neonatal unit and across Evelina London." Hammad truly epitomises the emphasis we put on the quality of our training for junior doctors during their placements at Evelina London. We are always striving to listen to feedback we receive directly and through the annual trainee surveys to improve the training experience we provide to our junior doctors. When completing the London School of Paediatrics trainee survey last year, 85% of paediatric trainees working in Evelina London Children's Hospital or our community services rated their placements as good or excellent.
